My Best Books of 2024
2024 wasn’t a knockout reading year for me—I just squeaked home with 51 books read. But the top 10 had some knockout entries.
As always, an eclectic mix of fiction and non-fiction, old and new books. And these were the books I enjoyed reading—which doesn’t mean you will!

Old God’s Time by Sebastian Barry – A lyrical, deeply human tale of love and grief, where the echoes of the past refuse to stay buried, demanding reckoning in the quiet corners of life.
The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster – A genre-bending classic that turns detective fiction inside out, making us question identity, reality, and the stories we tell ourselves.
In Ascension by Martin MacInnes – A haunting, beautifully crafted novel that stretches across life’s smallest cells and the universe’s vast mysteries, asking us to pay attention to the connections we miss.
When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro – my reread of this quiet storm of a novel, unraveling a detective’s quest for the truth about his lost parents that mirrors the fragility of memory and belonging in a world fractured by war.
Rosarita by Anita Desai – A poignant exploration of the hidden complexities in the bonds between mothers and daughters, with unspoken truths and quiet mysteries shaping their lives.
Fooled by Randomness by Nassim Nicholas Taleb – A punchy, irreverent classic that I reread in 2024, a challenge to our belief in cause and effect, exposing how randomness quietly runs the show while we take credit for luck.
Co-Intelligence by Ethan Mollick – A thought-provoking take on the future of humans and AI, reminding us that it’s not man versus machine—it’s what happens when we work in step.
Centennials by Alex Hill – A practical roadmap to building organizations that endure, proving success isn’t in flash or fads, but in timeless habits that compound over decades.
The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel – A clear-eyed guide that shows wealth isn’t about spreadsheets and equations; it’s about how you think, behave, and make peace with enough.
For the Culture by Marcus Collins – A sharp, practical playbook on selling to cultures, where the secret lies in embracing genuine beliefs—not manipulation—if you want to inspire loyalty and trust in your customers.
